A Bold Attempt is Half of Success

I usually pay very little attention to the little sayings that come in my fortune cookies. The broken English and questionable advice is entertaining, but never taken seriously. However, the one piece of advice that has changed my entire life is a piece of paper in my wallet that came from a fortune cookie. The words "A bold attempt is half of success" may seem simple and obvious to most, but for someone that struggles with procrastination and anxiety, this was an eye opener. The moment I read those words was the moment I decided to stop convincing myself I couldn't do it and start trying to do my best. Being a perfectionist that puts things off to the last second, I would much rather not turn in anything than do something less that my ability. This has always caused problems in every aspect of my life, from school to socializing, but I have made huge steps in the right direction because of that fortune. I'm making it a priority to attempt everything before I doubt myself.

So, here we are. This is my attempt. I've always had an interest in art and design, and really enjoy working with Photoshop. However, my older sister was the artist of the family, so I convinced myself I could never be as good as her and I should find something else to do. It wasn't until the beginning of my Sophomore year of college that I understood that my sister and I are good at two very different kinds of art and have very different skills. While she is great at drawing, painting, and sculpting, I have a natural ability for photography, design, photo manipulation, and digital art as a whole. I have finally convinced myself to at least attempt creating artwork, and I am so glad I did. This blog, among many other things, will document my journey on the road to success.

As this is my first post on my website, I would like to explain what I'm using it for and what I plan to talk about. The focus of this website is to display my artwork. A lot of my blog posts will be my newest artwork and an explanation of the character, my inspiration, and thoughts on the final product. Growing up, I spent most of my time watching cartoons. I was always interested in the concept that the characters, although living crazy lives and breaking reality, could actually be real people and live normal lives. This has stuck with me since the beginning, and is the reason I'm creating the art that I am now. I take cartoon characters from the early nineties to the late 2000's, and give them a modern look as if they were real people living in the real world. The finished product is something that puts a huge smile on my face, and I want to share that with people.

While the focus of this website is to display my art, I will also be using my blog to provide information I think is useful to others, and discuss things I feel need to be shared. I will be posting about things like the programs I use to create my art, different technology that makes the process easier, and how to organize and back up your work. I will also use this as a platform to discuss my progress as an artist and my progress in bettering myself as a whole. I have come a long way from the boring, antisocial kid I was in high school, but I still have a long way to go. Hopefully someone else out there will benefit from my words.
